Sign: Diabetes Let's Get Serious Caption: I was cured of self-injury, until the day I had to check my sugar... (The Family Stew - Mental Health Humor)

Bipolar Disorder can cause dramatic mood swings. Diabetes can cause dramatic sugar swings-thereby affecting mood. Sugar has been that type of a drug for me most of my life. Combine the two and it may be difficult to find stability of mood and sugar levels. Diet has been known to affect mood, that too has been one of my non-nutritional weak points. But if you are like me, and you are living with Bipolar and Diabetes, and you don't have your sugar under control...well, it's time to take it serious!

It really is life or death. Diabetes kills, but here are some things I found round the web that might help. With my A1C over 10 and fighting to get my sugar under 300 daily, the following points/information is not hollow...are not just things I read, but things that are helping me get a handle on my Diabetes. Things for you/us to consider:

What are your current eating choices? Have You thought about how these choices may be affecting not only your physical health, but your mental well-being? What can we do to lower our blood sugar levels if they are high? What foods can we discover, explore and enjoy to help regulate mood and stabilize our sugar levels? What specific food can support our pancreatic health?

(Many will be feasting this week. I encourage any who choose to use...I'm talking food...please: don't over-consume and cause yourself to be sick.) Practicing GRATITUDE: Year-Round Attitude! (and moderation) can help our Mental Health as well as the health of those around us in multi-beneficial ways.

Here are 10 foods that lower blood sugar, support pancreatic health and may lessen your need for insulin. Yum!

Apples - Apples are high in fiber, antioxidants and vitamin C. Broccoli - Broccoli is high in fiber and chromium. Beneficial in treating diabetes. Avocados - Can significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Asparagus - High in fiber, antioxidants and folate. It also has glutathione, which has been shown to lower blood sugar and increase insulin production. Almonds - Almonds have been shown to stabilize blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. Kale - Rch in fiber and in vitamins E, C and A, all of which have been shown to help stabilize blood glucose levels. Cranberries - High in phytonutrients such as anthocyanin which can help lower blood glucose levels. Oats - Oats lower cholesterol and control blood sugar levels.

Keep a food diary and document which of the foods, on the above-list, prove to be helpful to You personally. Please, let me know what You find in your own personal research/eating experiments.
